NME Afterprint: Mac Sabbath at Meow Wolf

Mac Sabbath
Mac Sabbath

Why should we care about a disturbed clown named Ronald Osborne? A clown who claims to have traveled through a wormhole in the time-space continuum from the 1970s, accompanied by a band of Monsanto mutants named Slayer MacCheeze, Grimalice, and the Cat Burglar? The answer is simple: they are here to save us from the disastrously decayed synthetic state of music and sustenance! Mixing raucous comedy with borderline-horrific theatrics, Mac Sabbath offers a unique experience that is as entertaining as thought-provoking.

The only thing more petrifying than the impending health problems resulting from years of overeating fast food is a Mac Sabbath show. This gruesome foursome performed their song, "Sweet Beef," for the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne. Mac Sabbath puts on a multimedia stage show with a smoking grill, laser-eyed clowns, bouncing burgers, and many more magical surprises. Essentially, it's everything a theatrical rock show consumer has been craving.

We talked with "Mike the Manager" about the upcoming concert at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, presented by AMP Concerts, and the band's journey over the past decade.

How does it feel to celebrate ten years in the business?

Celebrating ten years is very confusing, considering the thing we were celebrating in the first place lasted ten years! It makes you wonder about the future!

Where did the concept for the band come from?

Ronald Osbourne started this in secret basement shows of a fast food franchise. I believe he was working in protest. He insists he traveled from the 1970s to save us all from the current state of food and music.

What can folks expect from a Mac Sabbath concert?

Mac Sabbath is like nothing anyone had ever seen. It's not quite a band or a comedy show or a play or a magic show but something all its own, but it is an area-size stage show packed on a club-size stage spilling all over the audience!

Mac Sabbath is more than just a band; it's a cultural phenomenon that challenges our perceptions of music, food, and entertainment. With their unique blend of comedy, theatrics, and rock, they have carved out a niche entirely their own. As they celebrate a decade of disrupting the status quo, one can only wonder what the future holds for this extraordinary group.

Mac Sabbath's 10th Anniversary Tour, featuring special guests Tejon Street Corner Thieves and Spaceman Bob, promises an unforgettable experience. The tour will take place at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe. For tickets, visit https://www.ampconcerts.org/event/434101.

The fusion of fast food mascots with Black Sabbath's heavy metal is both quirky and entertaining, perfectly fitting the surreal and creative vibe of Meow Wolf. It's refreshing to see music combined with performance art in such a unique setting.
