April-May 2022 - THE SPORTS CONNECTION: Nohime Dennison

By AMarie Castillo :: Sports Writer

I met Nohime Dennison, owner of EatFit, in Albuquerque. EatFit is a healthy meal-prep service that helps athletes and busy individuals throughout Albuquerque. I was very inspired to find out she learned to love Albuquerque after being born in California. She refused to let the pandemic derail what she loves. Her food is terrific, and I'm excited to share her background.

What is your origin story?

I am originally from Santa Barbara, California. I moved to Clovis, New Mexico, when I was 15 to be closer to my family. Then I moved to Moriarty. When I turned 19, I moved to Albuquerque. At first, I did not appreciate New Mexico coming off the beautiful beaches, but then I loved the mountains, lakes, and all four seasons. I even became all about snowboarding in the winter!

How did you become a business owner?

I was once a fighter that always had to cut about 15 lbs before fights and lived on Lean Cuisine when it was time to cut weight. I was currently working as a server but was laid-off, so I thought to myself, "I love to cook, and there is no meal prep in Albuquerque. So, why not." I started prepping for myself and a few friends. Word of mouth is what got the business going. I have been doing EatFit for about ten years now, and I love it.

Can you explain meal prepping to people? Some think it's about fitness. Is that the case?

Meal prepping is great for people with busy lifestyles. You can be an athlete that is always in the gym and likes to have meals ready to heat and eat before and after workouts or just someone who has a 9-5 and will not have time to shop and cook. At least 80% of my clients are too busy, and my meals are super easy and convenient.

What is the best advice you received?

I can’t pinpoint the best advice I received, but the best advice I can give is to find something you love and stick with it, whatever it may be!
