“WinterFest is about more than just announcing our next season; it’s a celebration of community, artistry, and inclusion,” said Rob Armstrong Martin, executive director of Albuquerque Little Theatre (ALT). The black-tie gala, scheduled for January 12, 2025, at 1 p.m., will unveil ALT’s 2025-2026 season and give attendees a say in shaping its lineup.

"The theme for the season, 'Let Her Speak,' highlights our dedication to female-centric stories and voices," Martin explained. “Historically, women have had fewer leading opportunities in theater. This initiative allows us to focus on changing that narrative.”

Attendees will be treated to snippets of performances from eight musicals, each featuring a female character in the title. Works by legendary composers such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, and Stephen Schwartz are among those vying for a spot in the season. “None of the selected musicals will be repeats of past productions at ALT,” Martin emphasized.

In addition to the performances, WinterFest will feature a social mixer with champagne and appetizers, a step-and-repeat photo opportunity with eight local theatrical legends, and a voting process to determine the season’s final selections. “Every ticket includes five votes, cast via a QR code, and additional votes can be purchased,” he added. Three to four musicals will ultimately be chosen, with winners announced on February 1, 2025.

“Engaging the audience in this process is crucial,” Martin noted. “It strengthens our bond with the community and gives them ownership in the creative journey.” The event also includes announcements about the expanded lineup of plays, which will increase to up to 12 for the season, along with children’s programming updates.

ALT encourages attendees to dress to impress, suggesting black tie, gowns, or themed costumes to make the night even more festive. Tickets for adults are $60, while children’s tickets (ages 8-15) are $25.

Martin concluded, “This is an evening to celebrate the power of female talent and the passion of Albuquerque’s theater community. We hope to see you there.”
