November/December 2018 - Extras: Fall Fiber Fiesta 2018

Celebrating their sixth year, The Fall Fiber Fiesta is back with their annual event. Organized by the Española Valley Fiber Arts Center, the event shows the public a broad range of traditional and contemporary handmade fiber artwork.* New Mexico’s tradition in Fiber Arts is extensive, bridging cultures, techniques, and materials. The Fall Fiber Fiesta offers you the opportunity to meet over forty artists who have spent countless hours creating beautiful, unique works of fiber art. Several of the featured artists at the Fall Fiber Fiesta have achieved national recognition and are masters of their techniques. Browse colorful displays, feel the rich textures, and find locally handmade gifts for your friends and family.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, November 16, with an Artists’ Reception, allowing everyone to meet featured artists, preview artwork, and have the first chance to shop. This year there will also be a Silent Auction. Both fiber arts items and New Mexico-based experiences will be up for bid. The reception and silent auction will be from 5pm to 8pm. Admission is $10. Music, light snacks, and wine will be offered.

On Saturday, November 17, and Sunday, November 18, doors will be open from 9am to 5pm for visitors and shoppers to browse, buy artwork, and participate in demonstrations of various Fiber Arts techniques. Families and children are welcome and encouraged to participate throughout both days of the Fall Fiber Fiesta. There is no admission fee on November 17 and 18.

The Española Valley Fiber Arts Center (EVFAC) is a hub for all types of fiber arts activity in Northern New Mexico. EVFAC was established nearly 20 years ago by a local artist. It is a nonprofit, member-focused organization with 501(c)(3) status. It operates in the heart of a historically rich weaving region and undertakes many initiatives to teach fiber arts skills at every level, cultivate appreciation for handmade fiber arts, and provide opportunities for the general public to appreciate the work of all fiber artists.

This show is generously supported by New Mexico Arts and numerous individuals and businesses. This year the show will again take place at the Scottish Rite Temple in Santa Fe on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday November 16-18. This is the largest show in Santa Fe exclusively dedicated to handmade creations of New Mexico’s Fiber Artists.
