January 2018 - Turn it Up: SIN QUIRIN

Where did your love of music spark from?

Well I think I was born with it. My Dad was a singer in a band in Mexico in the 60's. My parents always had music playing at home whether it was traditional Spanish music or The Beatles, The Kinks, The Animals, Creedence Clearwater Revival, etc. But the thing that really solidified it for me was the first time I heard KISS's live album called KISS Alive! I was 6 years old in 1975 when I heard that and that was the exact moment I knew that this was what I was gonna do.

Do you remember your first gig? What was it like?

My very first "gig", if you could call it that, was my 8th grade talent show. It was horrible and amazing haha. Technically I'm sure we sounded bad but it was awesome for me cos I got that first adrenaline shot of being onstage. It was every emotion surging through me all at once. So I always hold that first "gig" very close to me."

How did Ministry come together? "Well I've been in Ministry since 2006 but the band started in the early 80's. I used to listen to Ministry when I was in High School haha."

When was the moment that you realized the band made it big?

Haha the band was big way before I joined so it was nice coming into a project that was already established".

How do you feel about the music scene in this day and age?

The music scene is a lot different now than when I was starting. The music business is a whole different ball game now and I think that has affected the music scene. The internet has both helped and hurt the music scene. It's pretty amazing that you can now make music in your bedroom and have fans all over the world without ever playing a show. But one of the downsides is that because things are so readily available people won't go out to support live or local bands. And of course most people stealing someone's music is a whole other topic...

What upcoming projects should we be looking forward to?

The new Ministry album is all done and will be out the first week in March. The record is called Amerikkkant. I'm currently in the studio recording music for my Power Metal band called 3 Headed Snake. We hope to have that available in early 2018.

What can we look forward to with your visit to Albuquerque for Albuquerque Comic Con?

A whole lot of fun! I'm really excited and looking forward to being part of this upcoming Albuquerque Comic Con. First off, I love Albuquerque. We have amazing fans there and our shows have always been awesome so I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. I can't wait to meet everyone and I'm gonna have some cool things available at my little booth so it should be a blast!
